We just booked 2 round trip tickets from Buffalo to Tokyo with a 3 day stop over in NYC for $108.00 – this is trip hacking.
Trip hacking is flying all over the world and staying in nice hotels for very little money. We don’t mean hacking, like computer hackers that go to jail, this is like extreme couponing, but less work!
Most airlines offer a loyalty program in which the person enrolls and then accumulates frequent flyer miles (FFM) based on the distance flown on the airline. But there are other ways to accumulate miles, like co-branded credit cards. This is where credit card companies partner with an airline and offer large sign-up bonuses. (bonus aka points aka FFM)
Let me give you an example of how to put it together to accumulate BIG bonuses. I applied for a co-branded CHASE/United Airlines card (met the required spending) and received 50,000 points. Then I applied for a CHASE Visa Sapphire Preferred (met the required spending) and received 50,000 Ultimate Rewards Points, which I then transferred to my United Airlines FFM account. 100,000 points total!
Another example: CITI has a co-branded card with American Airlines and offers a card with a 50,000 sign-up bonus. Chase has a co-branded card with British Airways and offers a card with a 50,000 sign-up bonus. American Airlines and British Airways are part of an airline alliance, you can book fights on each other’s airline.
